ARISTOPHANE. Κωμῳδίαι ἑνδεκα... Comœdiæ undecim cum scholiis antiquis. Geneva, Caldorian Society, 1607. In-folio, fawn calf, triple framing of gilt roulettes and fillets, semé alternating fleurs-de-lys and crowned numeral L on the boards, coat of arms in the centre, spine decorated with the same semé, gilt edges (Period binding). Complete edition of the comedies of Aristophanes giving, on two columns, the Greek text drawn up by Édouard Biset de Charlais, revised by the Hellenist Æmilius Portus, and the Latin version by N. Frischlin, F. Chrestien and A. Divius. These eleven comedies are the only surviving plays by Aristophanes.
This Geneva edition was printed by the Société typographique caldorienne, the printing house founded by Pyrame de Candolle (1566-1626). His father, a nobleman from Provence who had converted to Protestantism, had settled in Geneva. There, Pyrame married the daughter of Eustache Vignon and became a citizen in 1594, before moving his printing works to Yverdon.

Binding restored, white endpapers renewed, paper repair at the foot of the title and in the lower corner of the last 18 leaves of the table. Ex-libris crossed out on the title (small holes).
