ARISTOTE. Φυσικῆς ἀκροάσεως [...]. Commentationum de Natura, De cælo, De ortu et interitu, Meteorologicorum, De anima, Parva dicuntur naturalia. Paris, Guillaume Morel, 1561 [colophon: 1556]. 6 parts in one volume in-4, rebacked vellum with covers, medallion decoration and gilt spandrels on the spine and corners, smooth edges (Modern binding). Second issue of the Aristotelian Physics in Greek published by Guillaume Morel; the first is from 1556.
The work, printed with the famous "grecs du roi", consists of six parts under separate pagination and signatures containing respectively the Physics, On Heaven, On Generation and Corruption, the Meteorologies, On the Soul and finally the Small Treatises of Natural History. The first three parts were reprinted in 1561, while the last three are a re-issue of the 1556 edition.
A distinguished Hellenist, Guillaume Morel (1505-1564) was Adrien Turnèbe's associate and then successor as the king's printer for the Greek language. His Greek editions are renowned for their beauty and accuracy.
A wide-margined copy in an elegant gilt vellum binding, set in the flat of an earlier, larger binding. Some handwritten marginalia in Greek.
