Well-established in the Parisian artistic milieu, the artist participated in almost all the Salons between 1846 and 1884, with a polite, elegant and highly decorative painting style, as the work presented in the catalogue clearly reveals. From 1854, he devoted himself to the organisation of the first Ingres museum, of which he was the first director, and when his cousin died, he was appointed his executor.
