FIREARMS. ACCESSORIES. Alexandre Henri DUFRESNE de SAINT-LÉON (1820-1903). A blued iron powder flask inlaid with gold scrolls and foliage and a medallion depicting an antique hunter holding a dog. L: 14.5 cm, stopper missing. 19th century. BE Count Alexandre Henry Dufresne de Saint-Léon was Inspector General of the University and a sculptor. He also worked as a chiseller, damascenator, medallist and aquafortist. The inventor of a damascening process, he made and decorated numerous objects such as edged weapons, firearms and gunpowder flasks, some of which are in the Musée d'Orsay collections, including a gunpowder flask identical to this one donated by the Dufresne de Saint-Léon family in 1982.
