Rifle 1822 T modified according to the SAMAIN patent, walnut frame with the lock and counter lock places carefully plugged, round rifled barrel with breech closing by a spherical head bolt marked "Ateliers de la BUIRE - LYON", planchette sight allowing the shooting from 200 to 600 m, brass front sight brazed on the barrel/ L; 141 cm, barrel: 96,5 cm. BE The invention of Pierre SAMAIN from BLOIS consists in transforming the old rifles models with a mobile breech of the Chassepot type and allowing the shooting of a cartridge of the type of that of the rifles with snuffbox. The trials took place in October 1870. Most of the conversion work was carried out in the Buire workshops in Lyon. An estimated 80,000 rifles of all types were converted, but they were not used in combat.
