BE The invention of Pierre SAMAIN from BLOIS consists in transforming the old rifles models with a mobile breech of the Chassepot type and allowing the shooting of a cartridge of the type of that of the rifles with snuffbox. The trials took place in October 1870. Most of the conversion work was carried out in the Buire workshops in Lyon. An estimated 80,000 rifles of all types were converted, but they were not used in combat.
