EDGED WEAPONS. AUSTRIA. Brass-mounted hussar sabre, single-edged guard "à la Blücher" engraved on the cruise "13 . 14 . 15 März 1848", thumbpiece, leather-covered and watermarked wooden spindle, curved hollow-point blade engraved on one side with floral motifs, the double-headed eagle and the motto "Für Gott, Keiser und Vaterland" in a medallion, on the other side with the numeral "FJ1" of Franz Joseph I (1830-1916). SF. L: 91.5 cm, blade: 79 cm. ABE The date 13, 14, 15 March 1848 refers to the student revolution of 1848, which in December 1848 led to the abdication of Emperor Ferdinand I and the accession to the throne of Franz Joseph, Ferdinand's nephew.
