Royal artillery officer's "à la romaine" sabre, gilt brass fittings, eagle-head hilt held in place by 3 transverse iron rivets, beak pierced with a hole for a lanyard to pass through, straight crosspiece chased with fleurons, garlands of foliage and a horse's head in the centre, straight flat blade, leather scabbard embossed with lattice work with 3 gilt brass fittings cut into a brace, fluted cap knob. L: 62.5 cm, blade: 48 cm. Circa 1768-1775. Cross-seam of scabbard reinforced with glue, oxidation stains on blade. BE
