EDGED WEAPONS. SWITZERLAND. Light sabre type 1767 with moulded and varnished brass frame, pommel featuring an eagle's head, semi-curved blade with hollow sides and gutter engraved with foliage, the royal arms with 3 fleurs-de-lis in a medallion, a sun, a representation of the goddess Athena or Niké, signed at the heel on one side "CASSAIGNARD fourbisseur du Roi et maitre arquebusier près la bourse à Nantes", on the other "de la fabrique de la marque au raisin à Sohlingen", modern tie, leather scabbard with 2 brass fittings with bleached leather tab. Length: 70 cm, blade: 56.5 cm. Composite reassembly of a Swiss lighter sabre hilt, of which several are known with blades bearing the arms of the canton of Geneva, and a French sabre blade from the Louis XVI period, heavily re-cut.
