Savoyard" cuirassier's armour in wrought iron consisting of an armet with bomb visor made in one piece, crested stamp, mezail pierced with views and a simulated moustache closing with a hook, chinstrap and pointed gorgerin in one piece closing laterally to the right with a hook, Cord collar, breastplate with pronounced busk (polichinelle dent), bib, shoulder pads, breastplate roundels, armbands, cubiters, gauntlets (incomplete), poacher, and "crayfish" leggings, knee pad wings, leggings and articulated solerets from the early 17th century. Worn, oxidised and missing, leather straps redone, but period and beautifully presented, from Northern Italy. ABE The style of this armour and especially the helmet date this set from around 1600. It is referred to as "Savoyard" by comparison with the examples in the Geneva museum that belonged to the Savoyards during the Escalade, the failed attempt by Duke Charles-Emmanuel I of Savoy to take Geneva by surprise on the night of 11-12 December 1602.
