Lot no. 1853
Arnold Balwé. (1898 Dresden - 1983 Feldwies) Still life with tulips Painted in a broad, loose and abstract style in violet-blue with red accents. Balwé, the son of a Dutch consul, initially studied briefly at the academy in Antwerp. After a one-year stay in Italy, he studied under Karl Caspar in Munich from 1922 to 1927. From 1928, he was actively involved in the exhibition scene, including at exhibitions organised by the Neue Sezession München and the Rheinische Sezession, and often at the Glaspalast and Haus der Kunst in Munich. In 1946, together with Willi Baumeister, Max Beckmann and Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Balwé was one of the founders of the important artists' association "Neue Gruppe". His expressive painting, with a style developed from the active act of painting, shows van Gogh's influences, which he incorporates into his own pictorial language. Oil/cardboard. L. ob. sign. Depiction approx. 31.3 cm x 23 cm. Frame. Oil on cardboard. Signed.
