Provenance: Seller's grandparents, businessman Hermann Theodor Heine (1894-1936) and his wife, opera singer Olga Louise Heine, née Sørensen (1896-1961). Hermann Heine's parents, who were both Germans, immigrated to Russia in the last quarter of the 19th century, and he was born in Batumi by the Black Sea (Georgia). Olga Sørensen's parents, the father of German origin and the mother of Danish origin, immigrated also to Russia in the last quarter of the 19th century, and she was born in Krasnodar (Caucasus). In connection with the Russian revolution and subsequent civil war Hermann and Olga fled independently to Denmark, where they met in a guesthouse in Copenhagen.
