A GILT AND EBONISED WOOD HARP, BY SEBASTIAN ERARD, LONDON, FIRST HALF 19TH CENTURY; DEFECTS, LOSSES, RESTORATIONS, MECHANICS TO BE SERVICED, SOME STRINGS SUBSTITUTED
This fine specimen finds a timely comparison with a harp presented in a Bonhams sale (London, New Bond Street, Fine Musical Instruments, 6 November 2006, lot 29, https://www.bonhams.com/auctions/13463/lot/29/). In both cases there is an ornamental theme taken from classical repertoires, in this case called the Greek style, with allegorical vestal figures of music illuminated in gold on the soundbox; also identical are the relief figures in the head of the upright and the stylised palmettes at the base.
