Arthur RIMBAUD (1854-1891). P.A.S., Harar 22 October 1889 1/3 page in-8 in purple ink (crack repaired). Rare receipt from Rimbaud, coffee trader in Harar. "I have received from the Harar customs, on behalf of Mr Ilg with King Menelik, fifty fraslehs of coffee at seven thalers, i.e. a total value of three hundred and fifty thalaris (Th 350)"... He signs "For Mr Ilg Rimbaud". The bottom of the page is crossed out with a zigzag line. Alfred Ilg (1854-1916) was Menelik II's adviser and Minister of Foreign Affairs. On the back, a transcription of the receipt in Amharic (perhaps in Rimbaud's hand, who knew the language well). Former Simone de Carfort collection.
