Arts and Crafts desk by Rapp & Sohn for the 1895 industrial and trade exhibition in Strasbourg Wood, carved in relief, painted in light blue, cream and rose colours and partially gilded. Rectangular body flanked by narrow pilasters, merging into canted feet. Wide knee compartment on both sides, flanked by doors and drawers of various sizes above. Decorated throughout with fields of poppies and daisies in relief. Slightly protruding top panel. Traces of age. Covering of the work surface missing. H. 78 cm. 160 cm x 90 cm. The company Rapp & Sohn specialised in the production of utility, art and luxury furniture as well as entire room furnishings. The present desk was part of one such piece of furniture, which was certainly a one-off production and for which the company was awarded a medal. A carved and coloured wood writing desk.
