in white earthenware, painted in polychrome. Decorated with a scene of a notable wearing a tricorne sitting and writing leaning on a desk, behind him a dog (mastiff). Inscription: "michel doguereau 1755".

The subject of our plate is almost certainly Michel Doguereau (1690-1769), a bailiff and royal sergeant living in Marcé (Maine-et-Loire), who later became a notary. The Great Dane dog depicted on the plate is obviously a subtle reference to his surname, no doubt linked to the professional zeal we readily assume he had.
