ASSYRO-BABYLONIAN CARNELIAN CYLINDER SEAL WITH WEATHER GOD. Ca. 8th - 6th century BC. A reddish stone cylinder seal depicting the weather god (Adad) and a worshipper, standing in front of an offering table. The spade of Marduk (patron deity of Babylon), the Pleiades, a lunar standard (of the god Sin) and a winged sun disc (the god Shamash) are shown in the exergue. Studied by PD Dr. habil. Pieter Gert van der Veen, Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz. Size: 35mm x 18mm; Weight: 21.50g Provenance: Private UK collection; Ex.
