This edition contains the replies of the Jesuit missionaries of Peking and Macao to whom Astruc had sent a detailed questionnaire on venereal diseases in Chinese medicine. This essay can be found at the end of Volume I, in Roman numerals. According to Louis Dulieu, Jean Astruc. Revue histoire des sciences 1973, tome 26 pp. 122-123, this edition is the first Western medical book to show Chinese characters.
