(i.e. 44 maps)-36 pp. (minor foxing, some central foldings part. split, esp. pl. ix and x, a few damp stains, esp. on the lower margins from pl. xxxv (Crete) to xxxvii (Egypt), sm. tears in lower margin of pl. xxxix (Aeneas' navigatio) and pl. xl (Red sea periplus)). Contemp. calf, gilt tooled spine with 5 raised bands (joints partly split). A good copy. Complete 1st ed. of the final Parergon edition, enlarged and published as a separate book by B. Moretus. A highly personal work since Ortelius himself drew the original maps and had them engraved by Jan Wierix. This atlas of ancient geography includes 44 maps showing the historical geography of the biblical world, of Belgium, Germany, Italy, Greece, Egypt, Africa; it includes a reproduction of the Peutinger Map and representations of the journeys of Alexander the Great, Aeneas, the Argonauts and Odysseus; also with views of the Vale of Tempe (Thessaly), of the paradise of Daphne (Antioch), and of the Escorial (Spain).
