ATTIC RED-FIGURE KYLIX WITH ORACLE SCENE FROM THE CIRCLE OF DOURIS - TL TESTED Ca. 470 - 450 BC. A pottery kylix adorned with red-figure decoration of an oracle scene. The scene depicts a seated youth on an elegant chair, wearing a large himation, holding a long wooden stick in his right hand and a small bag in his left. To the right, a standing woman draped in a large folded himation is depicted. The scene is framed by a staggered meander motif border. The exterior walls is decorated with ten naked athletes in various poses. For similar see: Caskey L. D., Beazley J. Size: 340mm x 135mm; Weight: 690g Provenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the Dutch art market; Ex. Philip Goddard collection, acquired in 1985; formerly with Christopher Mann, London, UK. A copy of the original invoice from 1983 available. This piece has been precisely dated using a thermoluminescence analysis carried out by Ralf Kotalla. The report will accompany the lot. This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
