ATTIC SESSILE KANTHAROS
Ca. 400 - 370 BC. A fabulous cylindrical cup with a flaring lip that meets the rounded bowl at an angle. The curved strap handles curve to join the area just beneath the lip to the mid-section of the body. The exterior walls on each side of the vase are elaborately painted from top to bottom: a band of tongues, a panel of alternating red and black columns with arrow-like motifs in black and white on one side, a panel of nested leaf-like forms also in red and black with added white details, and finally a continuous band of running wave motifs.
