Our drawing is thought to be a remake of a lost drawing by Auguste Rodin, by his engraver friend Jules-Léon Perrichon, who worked for the sculptor on many occasions. We find this composition in Les Elégies amoureuses d'Ovide, a work illustrated by engravings by Perrichon based on drawings by Rodin. The same figure, engraved by Perrichon, also featured on the frontispiece of Judith Cladel's book Auguste Rodin pris sur la vie (La Plume, 1903).
We would like to thank Christina Buley-Uribe for attributing this drawing to Jules-Léon Perrichon in a letter dated 5 December 2024, and for her help in drafting this notice.
