In his biography of Pierre Mignard published in 1730, Abbé de Monville states that Mignard "has trained no one since (his return from Italy) other than Nicolas Fouché, who is still living and has a good reputation". A painter of history and portraits, his works are mainly known through engravings and reveal the influence of the Bolognese school. Like many artists of his generation, Nicolas Fouché achieved a fine compromise between the Rubenists and the Poussinists.
