AUBUSSON, circa 1760, "The Chinese Garden". Beautiful and important woollen tapestry after cartoons by Jean-Joseph DUMONS (1687-1779) taken with variations from the hanging of the history of the emperor of China by François BOUCHER (1703-1770), circa 1742, kept in the museum of fine arts and archaeology of Besançon. Without borders, unlined. Dimensions 240 x 280 cm (Wear, accidents, re-weaving) Provenance: Château in Lorraine. A similar tapestry is conserved at the Musée Nissim de Camondo (Musée des arts décoratifs du XVIIIe siècle de Paris) from the collections of Count Nissim de Camondo, woven in Aubusson from compositions by Jean-Joseph Dumons, painter at the factory from 1731 to 1755. These compositions were adapted from cartoons of the Chinese Hanging delivered by François Boucher to the Beauvais manufactory in 1742.
