Claude Roger-Marx was a prominent French writer, playwright, art critic, and historian, following in the footsteps of his father, Roger Marx. The British Museum holds drawings and engravings of illustrations by various artists for novels and books by our author, as well as illustrations that Roger-Marx collected, as his love of 20th-century art led him to amass an important collection, which, because Roger-Marx was Jewish, was targeted by the ERR, a Nazi Party organization dedicated to the appropriation of cultural property during World War 2.
