Exceptional Meissen tabatiere. with architectural landscapes
in an extremely rare form. Porcelain. Rectangular body with rounded corners and concave narrow sides. Flat domed hinged lid. Large, rocaille-relief cartouches on all sides of the wall. Including various idealised architectural landscapes with river courses, magnificent palaces and palaces as well as courtly cotton wool figures and merchant scenes with European and Oriental merchants on river banks with sailing ships. On the lid presumably a view of Albrechtsburg Castle with the Elbe Sandstone Mountains in the background. After engravings, probably by Pieter Schenk after Jan van Call (1655-1703), by Melchior Küsel after Johann Wilhelm Baur (1607-1640) and after Johann Alexander Thiele (1685-1752), among others. Extremely fine, polychrome painting. Elaborately worked gold and silver mounting in tricolour, chased and decorated in relief with rocailles, flowers and nautical motifs. Lid rest.; h. 5 cm. 9.5 cm x 6 cm.

An exceptional tricolour gold-and silver-mounted porcelain snuff box in very rare form, finely painted with idealised landscapes with splendid castles, Watteau figures and Kauffahrtei scenes. Lid restored.
