Round, moulded shape with a smooth rim. In the centre and at the transition to the rim a large impressionistic depiction of a lilac branch in polychrome, virtuoso painting, probably by Prof. Julius Eduard Braunsdorf (1841 - 1922) or a student of his. Model no. M 130, probably originally with wall mounting. Centreboard mark. D. 47 cm.
J. E. Braunsdorf (1841 - 1922), who worked as a flower painter from 1862, broke away from traditional Meissen bouquet painting and towards the end of the 19th century developed an impressionistic flower painting with a soft, glazed style and delicate colour palette, with which he had a lasting influence on subsequent manufactory painters and Meissen flower painting. He was appointed professor in 1900.
