Extremely rare Art Deco figurine group "The Encounter" by Meissen On a profiled, oval plinth, the scenic depiction of a standing young lady with a basket of flowers, turning in surprise to the man in a long coat behind her. Fine polychrome painting with subtle gold contouring. Designed by Heinrich Thein, 1947, model no. R 269, minimally damaged; crossed swords mark. H. 25 cm. The sculptor, ceramicist and graphic artist Thein studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Munich, between 1945 and 1947 he was employed as head of design at the Staatl. Porzellanmanufaktur Meissen, thereafter working as a freelance artist. Cf. Bergmann, Meissener Künstler-Figuren, model numbers A 100 - Z 300, p. 691, no. R 269. A very rare Art Deco porcelain figure group titled "The encounter" modelled by H. Thein. Minor chipped. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1947.
