Extremely rare Meissen figurine "Cupid, balancing a heart". Profiled, marbled round base. Cupid reclining on a purple-coloured cushion patterned with gold rocailles, his legs pointing upwards and balancing a large, flaming heart on his feet. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Designed by Heinrich Schwabe, c. 1877 - 1880. model no. L 126 x. Heart removable. Centreboard mark. H. 17.5 cm.
From a series of cupid figurines by the sculptor Heinrich Schwabe, born in Wiesbaden in 1847, who taught at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Nuremberg between 1875 and 1907. By 1899, the Meissen manufactory had acquired several of his models, including various cupids.
