BABYLONIAN STONE RELIEF OF ROARING LION. Ca. 650 - 600 BC (or later). A stone relief fragment carved in low relief with the head of a roaring lion in profile to the right, the reverse flat. An almond-shaped eye sits beneath a pronounced upper lid. A ridged muzzle shows marked whisker folds and a flared nostril, and the open mouth forms a deep recess. Along the neck and jaw, the mane is arranged in long parallel locks with closely spaced incised striations. For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 124886.
