BACON (Francis). Sylva Sylvarum, sive Hist. naturalis, et Nova Atlantis. Amsterdam, Elzevier, 1661. Small in-12, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate smooth spine, interior lace, gilt edges (18th century binding). A very fine Elzévirienne edition of these two fundamental works by Francis Bacon: Sylva Sylvarum, published posthumously in 1627, in the Latin translation by Jacob Gruter, and La Nouvelle Atlantide, which is said to have been translated into Latin by Bacon himself.
