BACON (Francis). Sylva Sylvarum, sive Hist. naturalis, et Nova Atlantis. Amsterdam, Elzevier, 1661. Small in-12, red morocco, triple gilt fillet, ornate smooth spine, interior lace, gilt edges (18th century binding). A very fine Elzévirienne edition of these two fundamental works by Francis Bacon: Sylva Sylvarum, published posthumously in 1627, in the Latin translation by Jacob Gruter, and La Nouvelle Atlantide, which is said to have been translated into Latin by Bacon himself. The volume is adorned with an intaglio engraved title-frontispiece. A very fine copy, finely bound in red morocco. Gibson, n°186 - Willems, n°1264.
