BACTRIAN SCHIST PALETTE WITH COILED DRAGONS Ca. 2500 BC. A schist palette tapering towards the top and decorated on one face. At the top, two stylised dragons with circular eyes and open jaws confront one another, their elongated bodies entwining vertically down the surface. These interlaced bodies form a sequence of four large oval fields, each enclosing a varying number of drilled bosses. The lower section comprises four horizontal rows of concentric circles, creating a symmetrical grid. Two horizontal slots are cut through the reverse for suspension or attachment. Size: 375mm x 125mm; Weight: 2.02kg Provenance: Private London collection, acquired on the UK art market; Ex. A. Kotlar collection, acquired in 2003. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
