Badinage, France, circa 1770. Folded fan, the skin sheet lined with paper and painted with a couple bantering in a country setting. The reverse is painted with a peasant woman and her dog walking in the countryside. When closed, the fan has painted flowers on its upper edge. The original ivory frame (elephantidae spp.) is pierced, carved, engraved, painted and gilded with baskets, medallions decorated with trophies, pedestals and vases. In the centre, a couple is painted on a panther fur background. (Good condition.) Height 27 cm; Height of leaf: 12 cm; Weight: 45 g. *An ivory specimen of Elephantidae spp (I/A) pre-Convention, prior to 1 July 1947 and therefore in conformity with EC Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996 art.2-Wmc, and prior to 1 July 1975 and therefore in conformity with the French decrees of 4 May 2017 and January 2022.
