RING WITH LARGE CAM 18k gold; Pb 10.6 g TDD 54 (changeable) (US size 7) Cameo on agate 15 x 22 mm 18th century (or earlier) and later mounting The cameo depicts the bust of a young emperor in profile to the right. The head laureate, the bust adorned with armor covered with a drape. Fine execution. The physiognomic characteristics are similar to portraits of the young Commodus or Heliogabalus. An 18th century (or earlier) agate cameo mounted on a later 18k gold ring. The cameo portrays the profile bust of a young emperor facing right. His head is crowned with a laurel wreath, while his bust is clad in armour draped with fabric. The work demonstrates fine craftsmanship. The facial characteristics are comparable to known portraits of the young Emperor Commodus or Elagabalus.
