Lot no. 18
18k (750 thousandths) white gold ring from the Art Deco period set with a transparent blue sapphire weighing approximately 12 ct, showing no trace of treatment. The shoulders are decorated with diamonds, mainly size 8x8 and heavily chipped and fractured. One of them is loose and will be supplied. The high transparency and rare inclusions made it impossible to identify the geographical origin on the gemological report. IGI report 10J2247624 dated 12 March 2024. Dimensions of sapphire: 17.2 x 11.7 x 5.75 mm. Finger size: 55 Gross weight: 6.7 g. This magnificent sapphire does not have a geographical origin established by the laboratory and yet the owner of this jewel insisted on it, but sometimes it is impossible to take responsibility for indicating an origin. Why is this? Rarely, indeed extremely rarely, is it because the stone is so pure that the very sporadic and microscopic inclusions are not enough to attribute an origin. Laboratory technology is constantly evolving, and in the years to come, only traces of chemical elements in the stone will make it possible to associate a composition and an origin. In the ring shown here, the soft blue is completely natural. The stone has not been altered by man. The absence of any treatment allows this sapphire, set during the Art Deco period, to reveal itself in all its purity, its softness of tone, and to lay itself bare without artifice. The result is stunning.
