Lot no. 37
18k (750 thousandths) white gold ring set with a 6.41 ct. cushion-cut Ceylon sapphire of an intense, almost royal blue. In the transparent stone, constellation-shaped inclusions play with the light, giving the sapphire a lovely softness which, thanks to its cushion shape, changes from a saturated blue to a luminous blue.
Bellerophon grading report no. B22416 dated 15 March 2024.
Dimensions of sapphire: 11.21 x 10.11 x 6.45 mm.

When we talk about Ceylon or Sri Lanka sapphires, the first colour that comes to mind is a light, slightly violet blue called "cornflower blue". It can also range from pale blue, very light with a pretty fire, to velvet blue, which is a deeper blue but still in the lighter blue range. This is followed by the stronger indigo blue, and ends with the intense, saturated royal blue. What we're looking for, especially in the more saturated colours, is the glint of light in the stone. In this case, the royal blue is revealed in dashes, guided by the natural inclusions in this particularly well-cut cushion-shaped stone.
