Lot no. 43
18k (750 thousandths) white gold ring set with a superb 2.04 ct. natural emerald of an extremely luminous and intense green revealed by an octagonal cut. According to the gemology report from the Parisian laboratory Bellerophon, the emerald's origin is Colombian and it has also undergone minor treatment. This is a stone of the highest quality from the most beautiful of origins, as confirmed by microscopic analysis, which reveals the top models of three-phase jagged inclusions. The setting of two rows of 0.69 ct. very white diamonds illuminates the whole. Bellorophon gemmology report nr. B22417 dated 15 March 2024. Dimensions of the emerald: 7.60 x 7.18 x 6.09 mm. Finger size: 55 Gross weight: 5.4 g. If Colombia is recognised as the world's top emerald producer, it's not by chance. It has a very long history dating back to the 15th century, when the Spanish launched the great explorations across the Atlantic towards South America and discovered the Chivor mines around 1545 and the Muzo mine in 1594. It was then that exports of these stones began to Europe, followed by India, which was very keen on green for the adornment of its Maharajas.
