Rare first edition. One of the most sought-after of Balzac's great novels, according to Clouzot. Without the 4 pages of the prospectus, missing in the margins of the covers, one page detached. A copy with large margins, free of foxing and beautifully bound by Emile Carayon (Vicaire I, 195).
