BAOULE, Ivory Coast. Matt black patina, hair, upholsterer's nails. A very fine "Ndoma" portrait mask from the "Mblo" group, an idealised representation of a prominent member of the community. This soberly refined face mask has a smooth face, harmonious features and a delicately striped hairstyle. First third of the 20th century. Height: 32 cm. Width: 21 cm.
