BARBEY D'AUREVILLY (Jules). Une vieille maîtresse. Paris, Alexandre Cadot, 1858. In-12, blue half-chagrin, spine decorated with gilt fleurons, combed head, untrimmed (Period binding). First edition in-12, with a new preface, given seven years after the rare first edition (previous lot). Autograph signed letter to Nicolas de Séménow on the first blank page: à Monsieur Séménow. Souvenir of cosmopolitan sympathy. J. Barbey d'Aurevilly. A French-speaking Russian writer, Séménow (1835-1886) left Russia to settle in Avignon, where he made friends with the poets of the Félibrige. The mailing is not reproduced in Les Dédicaces à la main de J. Barbey d'Aurevilly. The red ink on the lettering is a little faded; there are a few small brown spots; a few shorter leaves at the foot.
