BARBIER George. MARTIN Ch. BARBIER (George) Twenty-five costumes for the theatre. In-4 (31.6 × 23.9 cm), paperback, in a filled illustrated cover. Edition decorated with a composition pasted on the cover, a portrait of the artist in the frontispiece engraved with a burin by Charles Martin, and 25 plates out of text by George Barbier coloured with a stencil and enhanced with gold and palladium, under captioned serpents. Limited edition of 300 numbered copies on Ingres d'Arches laid paper, this being one of 25 hors-commerce (No. I). Enriched with an original Indian ink drawing of the title vignette, enhanced with white gouache. It also includes 8 signed autograph letters or cards (5 from Edmond Jaloux and 3 from George Barbier) to Camille Bloch. This correspondence describes the work's editorial vicissitudes. Minor foxing, especially in the margins, and rare folds. Cover slightly rubbed at the edges, beginning of tears at the corners and crease in the upper left corner.
