In-folio (37 x 54 cm), bound in half-chagrin with corners, smooth spine, gilt title on spine, gilt head (later binding). Superb, rare, large-format album illustrated with a lithographed title in colour and 25 plates drawn and lithographed by G. Barnard, beautifully coloured. The views represent : 1- Frontispiece, 2- The village of Grindelwald, 3- The Giesbach, 4- Lake of Thun, 5- Lucerne, from the cathedral bridge, 6- Gros Boden, on the Grimsel, 7- The glaciers, Grindelwald, 8- Simenthal et les Echelles, Leuk (2 views), 9- The Staubach, 10-Lucerne, 11-Passage of the Grimsel, 12- Schaffausen, 13- The baths of Rosenlaui, 14- Peasants of the Kanderthal ascendin the Alps and Girls of Brienz bringing home the gouts Evening (2 views), 15- The Gemmi, 16- Thun, 17- Unterseen, 18- The Jungfrau, 19- Interlachen, 20- Descending the Wengern Alps, 21- Travellers passing the Furca, 22- Fall of the Rossberg and Goldau, 23- The lake of Oeschinen, 24- Hospenthal, 25- Hospice of the Grimsel, 26- Domestic life in the Oberland. The book is dedicated "To the Noblemen and Gentlemen trustees of Rugby School by their Obedient Humble Servant". George Barnard (1807-1890), a pupil of J.D.
