Baroque ball-footed lidded cup. Silver, fully gilt. Slightly conical body supported by three flared ball feet with a moulded lip rim. Smooth rim set off by narrow moulded lines of varying widths. The body decorated with lavish fruit clusters and bows between three oval medallions with embossed portraits over a finely chased ground. Corresponding lid surrounded by fruit in relief with a high, spherical baluster knob. The underside of the base engraved with guild symbols, dat. "1710" and monogr. "J.H.St." and "G.W.A.". Marked, tremolier line, inspection mark, master Sigmund Bierfreund (became master in 1654). Weight approx. 225 g. H. 16.5 cm. Cf. cat. Germanisches Nationalmuseum, vol. I, part 1, MZ 68, BZ 26. A footed and lidded Nuremberg Baroque gilt silver beaker by Sigmund Bierfreund (master since 1654). With engraved guild symbols, monogrammed and dated. Test, assay and master's mark. German.
