Lot no. 63
Baron Karl REILLE (Paris, 1886 - Cerelles, 1975 ) : Hallali au lièvre, the cloister. Rallye Baudry. Watercolour. Signed lower right, titled on the back. Label of the publisher Neuville et Vivien faubourg Saint Honoré in Paris. 30.5 x 49 cm at sight. 49.5 x 66 cm. Around 1905, the brothers Karl and Guillaume Reille (aged 19 and 14) encouraged their father, Baron Victor Reille, to buy Beagles to gallop behind the hares on their estate in Baudry. Victor Reille, who was the official boatswain, played no part in the hunt. He was content to follow discreetly, pipe in mouth. It was his two young sons, who were passionate about hunting, who kept their crew going until the war - greatly assisted by their uncle, Pierre de La Verteville. At the start of the 1914 war, Karl Reille was captured by the Germans. An energetic man, in 1921 he set up a team to hunt only deer, the Rallye Gaîment. The outfit, grey with green facings, was the same as that of the Rallye Baudry. In 1924, stripes were added. Source: memoiresdesequipages.fr
