First edition. A novel about the patriotic feelings of a young Alsatian girl who falls under the spell of a German teacher. Barrès gives a striking description of the city of Metz under German rule after 1870. One of 75 copies on Hollande, the only large paper with 25 Japon. A very fine copy in lined morocco; the spine of the dust jacket is faded, but it is its mission to expose itself to protect the book...
