BATAK, Sumatra, Indonesia. Two "Perminaken" medicine boxes, the container made of calabash, wood and horn engraved with magical motifs is used to store the pupuk (magical substance). The stopper is carved with a mythical Singa animal and surmounted by an ancestor wearing a bird's headdress. Height: 17 cm and 20 cm. Literature: "LES BATAK", a people from the island of Sumatra. Achim Sibeth, published by Olizanne, 1991. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1970 by Jacques Cortecero.
