BATAK, Sumatra, Indonesia. Two medicine horns used to store "pupuk", a magical substance used by shamans to activate the horn's magic. The stopper is carved with a mythical "Singa" animal, surmounted by several ancestors, with a bird at the top. Length: 26 cm. Note: Pupuk is the name given to a magical substance used by Batak shamans in North Sumatra. Pupuk is the main characteristic for performing black magic. Provenance: Collected in situ in 1970 by Jacques Cortecero.
