Lot no. 10
[BAUDELAIRE (Charles)]. Articles justificatifs pour Charles Baudelaire, auteur des Fleurs du Mal. Paris, Impr. Vve Dondey-Dupré, s.d. [1857]. In-4, 33 pp. paperback, modern green silk cover with red chagrin spine. First edition of this very rare document published by Baudelaire during the trial of Les Fleurs du Mal. The booklet contains four articles "which represent the thoughts of four delicate and severe minds", as Baudelaire writes in the initial warning: two articles by Édouard Thierry and Frédéric Dulamon, which appeared in the press in July 1857, but above all two important studies in the first edition: one by Jules Barbey d'Aurevilly (in which the idea of a "secret architecture" of the Fleurs du Mal appears, promising a brilliant critical future), the other by Charles Asselineau. Pitting on the title.
