BAUDELAIRE Charles. Les Fleurs du mal. Paris, Poulet-Malassis et de Broise, 1857; in-8 paperback with [4]-248-[4] pp. in a book-shaped slipcase in red morocco decorated with gilt fillets on the boards, inner folder with red moire flaps, four red moire flaps lined with cream moiré paper, ribbed spine decorated with fillets and small fleurons, lined slipcase (Ed. Klein). First edition printed at 1300 copies on Angoulême vellum, of which at least 200 were expurgated of six pieces following the lawsuit brought against Baudelaire. In addition, 20 copies were printed on Hollande paper, most of them dedicated by Baudelaire. Copy on vellum, first issue with notably the mistake Feurs instead of Fleurs in the running title on pages 31 and 108, page 45 numbered 44, capiteux spelled captieux on page 201. The copy is complete with the six condemned pieces. Third state cover. A very fine copy, preserved in paperback, in an elegant presentation by Edmond Klein, Durvand's successor in 1926. Rare and pale brown spots. Bookplate of Jean Inglessi. In French in the text, 276.
