In-8, half marbled basane, smooth spine decorated with gilt small irons and gilt trellis, red title page, lemon edges (Modern pastiche binding of the 19th century). Extremely rare first edition. The work did not sell, probably because of its title, which the publisher changed to Manuel de cuisine... à l'usage des gourmands qui ne sont pas riches... The volume hardly sold at all. In 1836 the unsold copies were used with a frontispiece and plates under the title Le Nouveau cuisinier royal... by M. Bauvillier. Vicaire describes the work under the name of Bauvillier (75). The true author is said to be Nicolas-François-Gabriel Hennequin, vicomte de Curel et de Fernel (see Oberlé's note in the Lacam sale).
