Tibet Der Panchen Lama des Klosters Tashilunpo sitzt auf einem prächtigen Thron, in seiner rechten Hand ein Buch haltend, die linke zeigt die Instruktionsgeste, zwei Mönche bringen ihm weitere Bücher, inmitten einer bergigen und abwechslungsreichen Landschaft mit Figuren in Tempeln, Lehrmeistern und Mönchen, in Grotten meditierend, die Leben und Wirken des lamas illustrieren. Einzelne Figuren und Szenen mit tibetischer Schrift bezeichnet. Rückseite mit einem Handabruck eines Priesters und einem Siegel versehen. Gouache und Gold auf Stoff. Brokatmontierung. Farbverluste und Falten. Ensapa Lobzang Dondrub (1505-1564) wurde in Lhaku in Tsang, im Wensa-Palast geboren, in jungen Jahren bereits wurde er Schüler des Abtes des Klosters in Wensa. Er verbrachte Zeit in verschiedenen Klöstern und mehr als zwanzig Jahre seines Lebens in Meditationshöhlen, auch verfasste er zahlreiche Schriften, die zwei Bände umfassen. Er wurde postum als dritter Panchen Lama der Gelug-Tradition des tibetischen Buddhismus bezeichnet. Ensapa Lobzang Dondrub (1505-1564) was born in Lhaku in Tsang, in a place called Wensa. At a very young age Ensapa met his first teacher, the abbot of Wensa monastery, nd he went on to receive teachings in several other monasteries. He also spent more than twenty years of his life in meditation caves. He composed various scriptures, which comprise two volumes. Ensapa was posthumously appointed as the third Panchen Lama of the Gelug tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. This extremely fine thangka belongs probably to a larger series each depicting a Panchen Lama or the principle lama of the Tashilunpo monastery located in Shigatse. The Panchen Lama belongs to the Gelukpa or Yellow order and is seen as second in religious line to the Dalai Lama. 84.5 x 57.5 cm Provenance Dr. W. D.
